Long-Term

Looking to live and work in Banff for a season?

Work, Live, and Play in this exceptional region of the Rocky Mountains. Many people from around the globe make their way here to experience the beauty and lifestyle of the area. The Valley is a major tourist destination so the primary area of employment is in the service industry, you will however find a variety of occupations available. Jobs are most plentiful during our peak season from May to early October.

Plan ahead for your stay!

If you want to have a successful experience, be prepared to live independently for 3 to 6 weeks after your arrival. Finding affordable accommodation in the area can be a difficult prospect. See the section below for housing costs.

Before you arrive... Tips and Facts

  • Research accommodation options prior to arriving. In Banff 60% of entry level jobs include staff accommodation. In Canmore only 10% of entry level jobs have staff accommodation.
  • Bring enough funds to be financially independent for 3 to 6 weeks (that's the total time it will take for you to find work and to receive your first pay cheque).
  • Bring your Social Insurance Card.
  • Budget for the cost of living in this area.
  • Connect with the Job Resource Centre upon arrival.
  • Tourism is the major industry and is the main source for employment. Accordingly you must bring clothes suitable for the work you plan to do.

Finding Work

The most effective job search is done in person, however some employers will hire via long distance communication. To assist you in your job search, we have attached a list of main employers, mostly hotels, restaurants, ski areas, golf courses etc.... The list is not complete, but it will get you started. If you need information about employment in sectors other than tourism, check out the local newspaper links for their career sections, the job bank links, give us a call, or email us.

Keep in mind, there is a hidden job market with most jobs not being advertised. Industries such as construction often hire employees on site.

We suggest you check out these web sites for further valuable information:

Please drop by the Job Resource Centres when in the Bow Valley for complete job search assistance. Remember, a successful job seeker is well prepared.
